St-Jérôme felling permit

Information for slaughter tree

Mandatory Authorization Certificate You must obtain an authorization certificate before felling a tree.

You can make your request by: • Visiting our website > vsj.ca; • Calling the Citizen Center > 450 569-5000.

No fees will be charged if the tree meets any of the criteria below. Otherwise, a fee of $50 may be imposed.

Eligibility Criteria Felling is permitted in the following cases: • The tree is dead; • The tree is afflicted with an incurable disease; • The tree constitutes a nuisance or causes damage to property; • The tree poses a danger to the safety or health of citizens.

Required Documents • A description of the tree(s) subject to the request (with photos); • A copy of the location certificate indicating the location of the trees to be felled. • A report, produced by a registered member of a professional order authorized in the field (arborist), concluding that the tree's condition justifies the issuance of a certificate (if necessary); • A report from an arborist in cases where the felling of a tree is justified by the fact that it is afflicted with an incurable disease (if necessary); • A power of attorney (if necessary).

Planting If your felling request is authorized, the City of Saint-Jérôme may require you to replant one or more trees. In this case, it will require proof of purchase or photos. Attention! It is prohibited to plant the following tree species within 10 m of a main building, a pool, a street right-of-way, a water or sewer line, a well, or a septic system: • Silver Maple; • Giguère Maple; • Poplar; • Willow; • Aspen; • Ash.

Furthermore, every tree must be planted at a minimum distance of: • 3 m from a power pole; • 3 m from a streetlight; • 2 m from a fire hydrant; • 2 m from water and sewer lines; • 2 m from any electrical or telephone cable; • 3 m from any high-voltage electrical cable; • 1.5 m from a fire hose connection (siamese); • 0.5 m from a street right-of-way (1.5 m at an intersection).
