Information for slaughter tree

  • Every property owner must ensure the protection of trees on their property. In certain situations, felling may be required. A permit must be obtained before felling a tree on private property, whether it is located in the front yard, side yard, or backyard. Under no circumstances can a tree be felled to allow the establishment of a front yard garden. No tree, regardless of its diameter, can be felled if it is located in the shoreline. Only the owner of the property where the tree to be felled is located can make a request. Otherwise, a written and signed proxy from the owner must be obtained. A tree located within the city's right-of-way, regardless of its diameter, cannot be felled unless authorized and justified by the City of Saint-Eustache. To report a need for maintenance of such a tree, please fill out the Contact Us form. Criteria that may justify felling: The written expertise of a forestry engineer or an arborist who is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture Quebec (SIAQ) may be required to justify the need for felling, depending on the situation. Tree with a diameter of more than 76 cm (approximately 30 inches), measured at 1.2 meters (approximately 47 inches) from the ground: - It is dead or suffering from an incurable disease. - It poses a danger to the safety of individuals. - It causes significant damage to public or private property. - It hinders the growth and well-being of neighboring trees. For trees with a diameter of less than 76 cm (approximately 30 inches), it should be noted that a minimum number of trees must be preserved on your property based on its size.
