Tree Pruning and Cutting Regulations

Pruning of a tree on private property can be carried out at any time. However, cutting down a tree must be preceded by a request for an authorization certificate. A municipal inspector will assess whether the tree meets one or more of the conditions that allow for cutting down, in accordance with municipal regulations. The conditions are as follows:

  • The tree must be dead or afflicted with an incurable disease; or
  • The tree must pose a danger to the safety of individuals; or
  • The tree must cause damage to public or private property; or
  • The tree must be a nuisance to the growth and well-being of neighboring trees; or
  • The tree must be necessarily cut down as part of the execution of public works; or
  • The tree must be necessarily cut down for the realization of a construction or landscaping project authorized by the municipality. We invite you to contact the Urban Planning Department at (450) 473-5930 if you wish to receive an assessment for this purpose.
